Information & Interface Design

Information and Interface Design (UI) is the practice of presenting information in a manner that fosters efficient and effective understanding of it. The term has come to be used specifically for graphic design for displaying information effectively, rather than just attractively or for artistic expression. Information and Interface Design is closely related to the field of data visualization and is often taught as a part of graphic design courses; it is an explanation design in other words. It explains facts of the world and leads to knowledge and informed action.

Skills / Processes:

The Information Design discipline aims to create competent design professionals who are adept in varied domains of Information Design, User Interface Design and User Experience Design. The program intends to equip them with the know-how of transforming complex information and data into clarified user experiences on different digital platforms that lead to effective knowledge and insight generation. Otherwise known as User Interface (UI) Design - it also focuses on anticipating what users might need to do and ensuring that the interface has elements that are easy to access, understand, and use to facilitate those actions and it brings together concepts from interaction design, visual design, and information architecture.

Interfaces exist to enable interaction between humans and our world. They can help clarify, illuminate, enable, show relationships, bring us together, pull us apart, manage our expectations, and give us access to services. The act of designing interfaces is not Art. Interfaces are not monuments unto themselves. Interfaces do a job and their effectiveness can be measured. They are not just utilitarian, however. The best interfaces can inspire, evoke, mystify, and intensify our relationship with the world.

Career Opportunities:

Interface design is growing enormously, as digital products and services proliferate at ever increasing speed, via the spread of digital devices and the internet.

The course produces industry-ready designers, with a creative, practical and critical understanding of new technologies, who are excited by the potential of digital design practice.
