FAQ's

The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) measures the aptitude of an appilcant in specific - for the field of Architecture. The test measures aesthetic sensitivity and critical thinking, that have been acquired over a long period of time.
Prospective applicants desirous of taking admission to First year of undergraduate course in Architecture (Bachelor of Architecture) in India take NATA. NATA test scores are used by admissions authorities of different schools/ colleges of Architecture to provide common measures for comparing the qualifications of applicants.
  • The dates of the NATA test vary, but in general, starts from last week of March till the last week of August every year at designated Test Centers across India.
  • Appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • The candidate may take NATA a maximum of 5 times on days of their own choice. A test centre will be assigned to the candidate.
  • Applicants will have to wait for the results of their previous attempt, before booking for their next attempt.
  • Full fees will have to be paid for every new attempt.
Yes, the Council of Architects has stipulated that the NATA Test is a mandatory pre requisite for any applicant seeking admission into an architecture college in India. All applicants must clear the NATA Test by securing a minimum of 80 marks.
  • All Architecture schools in India must accept the NATA score.
  • Schools may use the NATA score as an admission criteria. For these schools, a 50% weightage is given to the NATA score and 50% weightage for the 12th Standard board exam scores.
  • Some schools admit applicants on the basis of IIT-JEE Paper 2 (Architecture Aptitude) and some private deemed universities conduct their own entrance exams - However, the minimum NATA score is still a basic requirement to be completed before admission into the architecture school

The NATA test is a 3 hour test. Candidates get 2 hours for the drawing test and 1 hour for the Aesthetic Sensitivity Test.

The Drawing Test has 3 Questions - 2D (25 Marks), 3D (25 Marks) and Theme Sketch (50 Marks).

The Aesthetic Sensitivity Test is a computer Adaptive Test and has 40 questions from topics like - Mental Ability, Architecture Awareness, Mathematics and English
The Aesthetic Senstivity Test is a Computer Adaptive Test - which simply means, that the test adjusts to your level of difficulty. If the student gets an answer right, the next question will be more difficult. Similarly, a wrong answer will lead to an easier question. The higher the difficulty level, the better is the final score in the Aesthetic Sensitivity Test. So although there is no negetive marking, students do lose out for wrong answers.
While the maximum NATA Scores have been 155+, a score about 120+ is considered to be good and must be the targetted score of all students. The ranking for admissions however depends on the students 12th Standard board results as well. Eg. A student with a NATA Score of 125 and 96% in the their 12th standard board exams can get the 1st rank while a student with a NATA score of 135 and a board score of 90% can get the 5th rank. Hence, it is extremely important to do well in both exams.
