The final step in order to secure admission in B.Des programme offered at different NIFT campuses is to appear for the Situation Test. NIFT Entrance Exam is a two-tiered process, wherein, aspirants need to give CAT (Creative Ability Test), GAT (General Ability Test) followed by the Situation Test.
NIFT Exam consists of the following:
1. Round 1: Written Test
2. Round 2: Situation Test
Each of these is described below:
General Ability Test (GAT) comprises of various sections as given below:
This test is administered for both UG and PG Design Programmes to judge the intuitive ability, power of observation in concept development and design ability of the candidate. An important aspect of the test is the creative and innovative use of colour and illustration skills.
Situation test is basically a hands-on test which is used to evaluate candidate’s skills for material handling and innovative ability. This is done based on the given situation and set of materials. One should keep in mind that no additional material will be provided or allowed. The model will be evaluated on space visualization, innovative and creative use of the given material, the composition of elements, colour scheme, construction skill, the finesse of the model and at last overall presentation. These parameters will then be checked with the write up explaining the concept used in the model constructed. Since the medium of instruction in NIFT Exam is English, the write-up will be in English only. No marks will be given for write-up in any other language.
NOTE: Students seeking admission in M.Des programmes have to appear for GD-PI round after the situation test.
It is recommended for B.Des aspirants to prepare a portfolio as well since, surprises are always there at the Studio Test. Besides, if not NIFT’s, other colleges always look for Portfolio to assess skills of students. There are a host of colleges like Symbiosis Institute of Design, Pearl Academy, UnitedWorld Institute of Design, Woxsen School of Design and others. To see how to get into these colleges, you could also look at the “Apply to Colleges” tab in DQ Edge.
